Punch and Judy
M.10 Off Soi 8, Thepprasit Road, Pattaya
Now that's the way to do it! The Punch and Judy knows exactly how to deliver an English-style bar with all the trimmings.
One of Pattaya's more recent additions, this bar looks the part, with a large central bar with its rustic bricks adding a touch of character. Dark purple walls and orange curtains, with a few pieces of art thrown in, and you have a decent looking spot.
Now it's all very well looking the part, but you come here to drink and eat, not admire the decor. Fortunately it also delivers here, in spectacular fashion.
Cottage pie, beef and stout pie, shank of lamb and Judy's mixed grill all come with fresh, quality meat. We went for the beef and stout pie and, to be frank, it was bloody gorgeous with tender chunks of beef and a light, fluffy pastry topping. Next time we may well be tempted by the Salmon Wellington (wrapped in pastry with a white wine sauce), the penne carbonara or the fish and chips.
There are Thai options here, but it's the Western food that is exceptional. When it comes to drinks, there's the usual range of draught and bottled beers, along with rums (Captain Morgan, Bacardi, Havana) and whiskys (Jim Beam, JD, Chivas).
The girls who work here are fun and a little fiesty, so the atmosphere is always lively. It's a little out of the way (if you know the Eden hotel or Caddyshack, it's near here) but you should drop by to check out a traditional English pub that keeps things simple - with no strings attached (just like Punch and Judy) .
