Just about the cheapest rooms in town are ironically next to some of the most expensive.
Just across from the fancy Thani Jomtien are a series of shops that double as guesthouses. The best of these is DD, which has rooms from 450B. Rooms are tiny but clean and the private bathrooms are similarly poky but effective. On the plus side, it’s a two-minute walk to the beach and you can look at the window and consider how much you’re saving by not staying over the road at the Thani.
The shop’s owners are also the ones who give you the keys to the rooms upstairs and are friendly enough, but their English is limited. Most of the places here have private entrances, so you don’t have to get home before the shops shut.

With their very own 'Tina Turner' strutting across the stage, the Malibu bar on Second Road is one of the liveliest bars in town. This ladyboy cabaret bar puts on a show featuring English, Russian and Chinese songs, all performed by hugely entertaining, lip-synching entertainers.
